Along with the new Facebook Timeline comes an ability to add so-called “Life Events”. Among the selection of things to highlight are changing jobs, the birth of a child and ending a relationship. Wait what?!

It looks like you can choose between Broke Up, Separated or Divorced, attach a tag of the person involved and best of all, post a picture from the camera you had hidden ahead of time: ostensibly so that you’d have some record of the moment to share on Facebook.

I’m super happy with my job but always get a bit of a stroke when I get a LinkedIn message. My favorite are from CEOs of startups and I love hearing about their passionate ideas. This morning, however, I got a message from a tech recruiter and it went like this:

Hello Leo,

Awesome work at Ticketfly. Anyways, I came across your profile and you are a great fit for two exciting opportunities from small well funded startup companies we represent.

If you are interested, feel free to email me back.

If not, refer a friend for a MacBook Air!

Cheers,

David FooBar
Sr. Technical Recruiter

I found this really amusing because I have been working at Ticketfly for just 3 months and was really curious as to what “awesome” work he could have been talking about. A quick glance at my profile to make sure that I hadn’t updated it since joining:

Software Engineer

Ticketfly

Privately Held; 51-200 employees; Music industry
September 2011 – Present (4 months) San Francisco Bay Area

Ha, ok. He must have liked the way I didn’t have any spelling mistakes.

Leo Romanovsky: What did you find awesome about my work at Ticketfly?
David FooBar: I enjoy the Ticketfly website. Are you pursuing opportunities?

LOL, right. An aside, ex-Lehman Brothers employees are not to be trusted.

David FooBar
Account Executive
Lehman Brothers
Public Company; 10,001+ employees; LEH; Capital Markets industry
June 2005 – January 2008 (2 years 8 months)

David has 3 recommendations (1 manager, 2 co-workers) including:
Julie S., Wholesale Account Executive, Aurora Loan Services A Lehman Brothers Company
Jeff H., Wholesale Account Executive, Aurora Loan Services/Lehman Brothers

Seriously, I can emphasize that tech recruiting isn’t easy but are some people even trying?
